Tips To Extend The Life Of Your Proxima Lamps
Published by: anonym 2008-08-28
There are many different quality projectors on the market and Proxima is one of those. Lamps aren't cheap so you want to make sure you take good care of them. Here are some tips to extend the life of your Proxima lamps.

The most common reason for a projector bulb to fail is heat. If you don't allow the bulb to cool you will shorten the life of the lamp. Newer models have an automatic power off switch but on older models you need to make sure you power the projector off so it doesn't heat up.

When you are done with your projector you need to make sure it runs the full fan cycle before you unplug it and store it away. The fan cycle cools everything down appropriately so as to help extend the life of the lamp.

You should clean the filter on your projector regularly. A dirty filter will cause your projector to run hotter and that will cause the lamp to fail prematurely. Clean your filter every 3 months using a can of compressed air which you can buy at your local office depot. If you are using your projector in a dusty or smoky environment you'll need to clean it once a month.

The newer digital projectors have what's called an Economy Mode. This setting uses less brightness from the projector lamp so the lamp lasts longer. For example if you have a projector with 2000 lumens of brightness and the lamp is rated for 2000 hours if you put the projector in Eco-Mode the brightness drops to 1500 and your lamp longevity jumps to 3000 hours. So whenever possible use the economy mode.

While the projector is on or when it's powering down the lamp is extremely sensitive to movement so moving it around could shorten the bulbs life expectancy and it could even cause the lamp to explode. You also need to make sure you don't bump or move your projector too quickly as the lamps are really sensitive.

Make sure that there is good airflow around your projector's fan. There should be at least two to three feet from the fan and a solid surface such as a wall. If it doesn't have ample breathing room the lamp will get too hot and it will burn out much sooner.

Your project also needs special precautions in really cold winter weather. If you leave the projector with your data in a car when it's 40 degrees or below the lamps tend to explode if you turn them on without warming them up to room temperature. In the summer time the heat can cause electronic components to melt. Remember it doesn't take much for the temperature in a car to climb over 100 degrees. Try to keep your projector at room temperature.

Replacing a projector lamp is fairly simple. But remember the projector glass and housing is fragile so it pays to carefully read your owners manual. Never ever tough the glass housing because your finger oils will cause the bulb to burn out early and always handle the bulb with care.

Every projector lamp is going to fail at some point and Proxima lamps are no different, but following these tips will help extend the life of you're your lamp.
