A smart person will learn all of the laws that affect them on a job, however, you'll find that if you learn how to work smarter, you'll be able to know the laws and avoid the consequences of breaking the laws.
First, you should know that ignorance is sin. It is not something that is excusable and you'll find that there are a lot of things that you could do to help yourself out at work. If you aren't aware of some of the laws at work then you might want to ask for a handbook. The handbook will have all the knowledge that you need to know about the job and how you should do your job. If there is something that is not addressed in the handbook, you might want to ask your boss about all the concerns that you have. You will want to make sure that most of the laws are addressed before you are done with your training period. You will want to ask questions about the job like were you put things, how you do certain things, and any tips that they might have for you to perform the job. As for the related job material you are going to have to know the laws on the dress code and the relations of co-workers. That is usually the laws where you can or can not date someone or if you can have a personal relationship with one of the other workers.
Secondly, you will want to think about how you can ask questions during the interview and training period so that you can look interested or even smart. You will find that if you ask some of the simple questions or if you begin to think outside of the box, you'll be able to make a difference in the first impression. You will notice that your boss will ask be more than happy to answer all of your questions and they will be impressed. They will love the fact that you are into the training period and even into the job. They will see you as a worker with potential and it might make a difference in how they feel about you. When you get a worker who asks questions and seems to care about the work, then you will notice a worker who might have management potential. It is very important that you think of some questions about the laws and the work in general to ask.
Thirdly, you will find that if you take some mental notes on how everyone else acts or how someone else does something. You will learn the laws really quickly when you take the time to just notice the people who you work with. You will find that if you just watch some of the others do some things, you will learn things about procedure and also even the dress code laws. You will find that there are tons of things that you can do to pick up the laws on your own; however, it is best to get everything clarified before you take your notes as assumptions and the correct way of doing things.
You will find that if you just put some effort forward, you'll be able to make a difference in the way that everyone sees you and the way that you are valued at work. You want to do your work well and right, but you'll need to figure out the right or wrong ways of doing something and you'll want to confront people like your boss and co-workers will all of your questions.
